Serpentine-Front Camel-Back Sofa
#A159FP. Circa 1900. America. The Chippendale camelback sofa has been a mainstay of fine home furnishings since the middle of the 1700's and it still is today. This sofa is a handmade custom copy of an 18th Century Georgian American sofa of the type that could be seen in the homes of the prosperous in Colonial America. The earmarks of a really authentic camelback sofa are all to be seen on this piece . Strong molded hand-carved legs with "H" stretcher, well-proportioned arms and back hump, and an excellent serpentine front. The piece was reupholstered in silk damask around 5 years ago and shows no signs of wear. The cushion appears to be down or feather filled and is attached with hooks to the sofa. Not only will this sofa look wonderful in any room , it is also very comfortable -- especially great for a nice nap. Very good condition -- the sofa is strong and sturdy. Very minor dings and scratches on the legs. Fabric appears to have been put on less than 5 years ago. 81" wide x 34" depth x 39" high (at top of camelback.). Seating area is 59" wide x 24: deep x 21: high. 43,600.00.
