Miniature 3-Drawer Mahogany Bow-Front Chest
#A195AP. Circa 1795. Mid-Atlantic. This charming little chest was hand made as a cabinet maker's sample, or more likely as a toy chest for a very privileged little girl to keep her doll's clothes in. It was made in a very skilled cabinet maker's shop using leftover mahogany from full-size pieces of fine furniture, with pine and poplar secondary woods. In all probability the chest originally had wooden knobs which were replaced around 75 to 100 years ago. The current hand-cast brass ring pulls are English with the Prince of Wales feather design. Today, chests such as this are rarely found in the playroom holding Barbie"s clothes. They are more likely to be found in the living room, study, or bedroom where they are excellent for storing small items such as glasses, watches, and jewelry. Very minor signs of age. Replaced hardware. 13.25" wide x 8.5" deep x 14.5" tall. $1,200.00.
