Ridgway Ironstone Platter
#7796AN. Circa 1820. Staffordshire England. This transfer decorated platter was manufactured by John & William Ridgway, Cauldon Place and Bell Works, Shelton, Hanley, Staffordshire Potteries, England. The pattern name is "Italian Flower Garden". The mark printed in blue on the back has both the pattern name and underneath is "J.W.R.". Ridgway used this mark from 1814 to 1830. The platter has several shades of blue on a white ground and moulded white decoration on the outer edge. Platters of this type were mainly used for meat courses, especially roasts and whole fowl. Good condition - slight discoloration, one small hairline crack in the glaze on front, some crazing on the back. 19.5" long x 16.5" wide x 2" deep. $395.00.
