Classical Sofa

#9279FB. Circa 1810. Mid-Atlantic. This "Grecian Couch" was originally the property of Israel Carle of Carleton, New Jersey 1757-1822 (see brass plaque). Mr Carle was an officer in the New Jersey patriot forces and served throughout the Revolution. It is a recent deacquisition of a well-known museum house. The settee was probably made either in Philadelphia or the Trenton area of New Jersey. The frame is mahogany and retains what appears to be the original finish. This classical style sofa is newly reupholstered and hand-tacked with brass nail head trim. Excellent condition - very sturdy. One old repair to a back leg recently reinforced internally; other minor old repairs. 79" long x 34.5" tall (17" seat height) x 23" deep. $2,900.00.
