Oil on Canvas "A Choir of Birds"
#9310PZ. Circa 1940. European. A very decorative painting in the style of Jan van Kessel the Elder (Flemish, 1626-1679). The "Dawn Chorus" of birdsong is a natural phenomenon in temperate climates, particularly in springtime. Here the artist, in van Kessel's style, playfully interprets "chorus" literally, complete with a congregation of varied bird species taking musical direction from a wise owl as choir director, following sheet music. Signed in lower right. Gold wooden frame. Excellent condition - minor old and new repairs - minor crackling --minor wear on frame - cleaned by us. 45" wide x 34.25" tall x 1" deep. $1,900.00.
