#9238PZ. Circa 1830. American. Oil on Canvas. Thomas Horner (sometimes spelled Hornor) was born into the Quaker family of a grocer in Hull, England in 1785 and died in New York City in 1844. He was known in New York for allegorical paintings of ships in peril and moonlit scenes. The frame is gold leaf and gilt on gesso on pine and is probably European and from the 1870's. Condition: excellent - wear consistent with age - cleaned and relined last 20 years. 41.5" wide x 30" tall x 3" deep (sight measurements are 20" x 31.5"). $3,200.00.
