"Italian Mountain Landscape," Attributed to Jan Asselijn
#4868PP. Circa 1640. Europe. Oil on canvas. Mountain scene with a caravan heading toward a fortress overlooking a lake. Incredible clouds and blue sky. Written on back of canvas: "Par Asselyn". Jan Asselijn (Asselyn), 1610-1652, was a chief Italianate landscape painter of the Dutch Renaissance. Rembrandt actually sketched him. Original stretcher stamped "Momper a Paris". Reportedly brought to the US and sold by "Nurdler & Co." in early 20th Century. Later gold leaf and gilt frame, circa 1840. Condition: Excellent - very minor losses to frame - beautiful patina - canvas in great shape condition commensurate with age. Dimensions (frame size): 23" wide x 19" tall x 3" deep; stretcher is 11.75" tall x 15.75" wide. $7,500.00.
