Neo-Classic 8-Light Gilt Bronze & Crystal Chandelier
#A191XB. Circa 1830. France. This stunningly delicate-looking 8-light chandelier is light and airy, with rich, hand-cast gilt bronze fittings that exhibit the beautiful patina of nearly 2 centuries of care and use. The hand-cut crystal prisms are period and throw off an incredible sparkle of color. The bottom brass band, from which hangs a neat row of simple icicle prisms, is decorated with Louis XVI-style scrolls, upon which are mounted four impressive horned satyr heads, each supporting a pair of scroll arms. The candle cups and bobeches have fine bronze foliate detail from which hang petite tear-drop prisms. A chain of crystal balls supports a floating central pendant which has a fountain spray of bronze and a flame final, with tear drop prisms. The fixture attaches to a delicately detailed foliate-form crown, hanging by four bronze chains whose links are rectangular with center rosettes. The quality of the bronze castings and the central pendant indicate this was a luxury item at the time it was made – and still is today. Originally a candle-burning fixture, it is Louis XVI in design but was probably made during the reign of Louis Philippe. It was electrified to European standards decades ago and was rewired by us to American standards. If you’re looking for a statement piece, look no further! 30" diameter x 30" tall. NOTE: 30" diameter shown is to outer edge of bobeches. Diameter of the ring itself is 19.5". Excellent condition. Ceiling cap, 1 foot of chain, and hanging hardware included. $10,000.00.
