#8460PT. Circa 1715. England. Oil on canvas - frame is gold leaf and gilt on gesso on wood. This painting is of a knight in full armour. The hair style indicates the subject was from the late seventeenth century or the early eighteenth century. However, the painting could be an eighteenth century copy of a seventeenth century portrait. The frame appears to be from the first quarter of the nineteenth century. Condition: excellent - the painting shows its age with an excellent patina - old repairs - appears to have been relined in the 19th century - probably re-framed in the first quarter of the 19th century.
