Hepplewhite Style Small Serpentine-Front Sideboard
#6613FL. Circa 1890. New England. This exceptional petite sideboard or huntboard is the work of an excellent cabinetmaker, probably from somewhere near Boston in the latter part of the 19th Century. It is hand made of old growth mahogany and tiger maple with poplar secondary wood. The zigzag inlay on the edge of the top is particularly fine, as as is the mahogany banding on the 3 drawer fronts and the center arch. The curved drawer fronts are very hard to make and are the sign of outstanding craftsmanship. The pullout shelves on each end of the sideboard greatly increase its usefulness during a dinner party or family gathering. Refinished about 50 years ago. Pullout shelves added 20 years ago. minor dings, scratches, and cracks commensurate with age. 40.5" wide x 19.5" deep x 36.5" tall. $2,400.00.
